Membership Steps
This is a very integrated and balanced
program. It can help you get the most out of life, and
to do the most good for others, future generations and the
natural world. But the key is to first understand how the
program works, and then to follow the steps, since they are a
recipe for optimum living. Once you fully understand the
strategies involved, then you can make adjustments
based on your personal preferences.
1. Read the Introduction, if you
haven't already.
2. Read the Benefits, if you
haven't already.
3. If you think this program is for you, then find or
create some form of ongoing support. The easiest way to
do this is to find one other person to do this with and use
the Buddy System format. A little harder, but usually
worth it is to find or organize a small group. If you are
already part of a group (a school, a church group or an
environmental group, for example) you can usually recruit
like-minded people there. Go to the Find
Support page for more ideas and materials. Use
your support to help you do the following steps.
4. Before you set goals to improve your life and the
world, you ought to assess your current life, usually looking
back over the last four months. You can use the Lifestyle
Review and/or the Ecological
Lifestyle Assessment for this.
5. Go to the Vision and
Strategies page and read more about the Sakai vision and
our major methods. If you can study and discuss them
with a group of people, it will help you understand how these
ideas and methods can be used in your life.

6. Spend at least five hours a week on the best, most loving use
of your time. This means making stretches (efforts) beyond what
you normally do. If you wish, you can use the Eight-Lane
Highway framework, trying to do action in each area, or you
can spend at least one hour in each of the five 'CLEAR' areas:
C =
Capacity-building, as in remove obstacles and build capacity.
L = Live!, as in live your mission and happiness fully
E = Empower others, as in helping them to help
themselves
A
= Add to your life-support systems at least as much as you
take (More about
this.)
R
= ''Ripple Effect," as in pass on this method to others personally.
7. Recommended:
a. Set goals and make plans every four months or
so. (You can use the Life
Pact form for this.)
b. If it helps, keep a written record or journal of your actions.
This helps motivate you and give you a sense of your progress.
c. Make a tax-deductible contribution to World Peace One
to promote this program and others as part of our global
strategy. To donate by check, send your
tax-deductible donation to World Peace One, Penn Av., Pittsburgh, PA
15224. (Thank you!)
d. Evaluate yourself every four months or
so. You can again use the Lifestyle
Review and/or the Ecological
Lifestyle Assessment for this, and repeat the cycle every
four or six months.
